Is Boxwood villa a bed & breakfast?

No.  Boxwood Villa is an 11-acre Farm Rental.  Tenants of Boxwood Villa get the entire property to themselves (5 bedrooms/sleeps up to 10).  Simple to luxurious catering is available from The Market at Grelen.  Although no breakfast is served, tenants can order from the catering menu and have it delivered.  We highly recommend the Grelen homemade scones!  See the Catering Tab for options.  

is catering available at Boxwood Villa?

The Market at Grelen’s in-house catering team, headed up by our Executive Chef that can cater to your needs. Casseroles can be made for your stay and left in the refrigerator for when you arrive and fresh homemade scones and lunches can be delivered at your request. Fancier wine dinners are available, too, with enough notice.  

Is there a mini Bar?

Yes!  There is a high quality mini bar at Spotswood lodge that includes lots of delicious local treats and drinks.  Alcohol is not included in the mini bar (due to licensing), but can be pre-purchased and left at your request.  Please see the drink menu on the catering page.  There is a great list of local wines and all tenants get a 20% discount off the beer, cider & wine. 

DOES the market at grelen own other properties?

Yes--The Market at Grelen also owns Spotswood Lodge which is located only 10 minutes away near the town of Gordonsville.  See www.spotswoodlodge.com for details.  Answer to question 3

What is there to do in the area?

Yes! Internet is available at Boxwood Villa but keep in mind that internet in the area is by satellite only and does not allow for streaming movies, videos, or music. The connection is good for web browsing and checking e-mails.

Questions about Weddings & Events at Boxwood Villa 

​What areas onsite are included in the venue rental fee? 

​You have exclusive use of the property;  house, front ceremony & cocktail lawn, and reception meadow until 10pm.

​What times do we have the Venue? 

​Ceremonies may begin anytime if you have booked overnight accommodations with us. If you have not booked overnight accommodations you have the property from 11am - 10pm. All events must end by 10:00pm. Due to noise ordinances, music must be turned off at this time. 

Are Tables and Chairs Included?

​No, all rental items must be brought in from an outside vendor. Please see our recommend vendor list for a list of approved rental & decor companies.

How can I reserve my wedding date? 

​A 50% deposit along with a refundable damage deposit is required within 7 days of the signed contract to reserve your date. The remaining balance is due 30 days prior to your event. 

What is the Refundable Security Deposit?

A $1,000 refundable security deposit is required for onsite Lodging & Event use. If you are having and event only, the refundable deposit is $500. This is to cover any potential damage from use and will be refunded 10 business days following the event.

​Do we need to hire a wedding planner?

​If your event exceeds 35 guests, we do require that you hire at minimum, a Day Of Wedding Planner. Please see our preferred list for more information 

Is there enough lighting onsite?

​Yes! The existing outdoor lighting and landscape lighting is included. We recommend you rent additional string lighting for any tented structures that are brought in. Candles are the responsibility of the client and must be contained in a votive or hurricane. 

​Is there enough power onsite?

​There are several electrical outlets for your use around the main house. There is a separate power box provided for the Reception Meadow. This is ample power for DJ, Band or catering team. 

Are bathrooms included?

The restroom’s inside can comfortably accommodate up to 50 guests. An additional restroom is required for events exceeding this amount, at the client’s expense. 

​How many people can the Front Lawn accommodate for a ceremony at Boxwood Villa?

​The front lawn area, located directly in front of the Villa can accommodate up to 150 guests.  

​Is there enough parking onsite?

​Due to safety and liability concerns of hosting an event in the country, shuttle service for guests must be reserved to all out of town guests not staying onsite if alcohol is served. Included onsite is a gravel parking lot which offers up to 75 spaces and one Grelen parking attendant leading up to your ceremony start time. 

Can we use the items in the house for our event?  

No. For ample decorations & live plants for centerpieces, visit The Market Retail Shop, located at The Market at Grelen just 8 minutes away. Please note that any lost or broken items not returned to their original places inside the house will be deducted from your security deposit at its retail value. 

What vendors may we use? 

​The Market at Grelen has an extensive list of Recommended Vendors. Vendors not included in this list are allowed, must be pre-approved by the Venue Manager prior to hiring. 

Are DJs or Live Bands allowed?

Yes! All entertainment vendors must be pre-approved and sign a noise ordinance agreement. Due to our noise ordinance, noise levels will be monitored and cannot go above 80 dB (which is a typical wedding or dinner-dance band level).  

Who sets up and cleans up our wedding?

​The client’s team of vendors are responsible for all design, set up and tear down. Full service caterers are responsible for setup and breakdown of table and chair placement and of the removal of all trash from event, disposing in designated Grelen dumpsters. 

May we take photos on the property?

Yes! Boxwood Villa offers the perfect setting for photos! Engagement photo shoots are INCLUDED in all immediate areas if the spaces are not booked for another event or stay. You also have access to The Market at Grelen during business hours. Photo shoots outside of business hours are available based on availability and for an additional fee of $50 per hour. 

Where can our Guests stay outside of Boxwood Villa & Spotswood Lodge? 

The town of Orange offers several hotel and B&B options. The town of Charlottesville is located 30 minutes South-West with numerous hotels to choose from. The town of Culpeper is located 30 minutes north, with several accommodation options. Please visit Rural Roots website (www.ruralrootsva.com) or ask our Venue Manager for more information. 

Is a Grelen employee present at our event? 

Yes, a Venue Manager is present the day of your event and included in your venue fee. On the day of setup, the Venue Manager will provide assistance for key suppliers; however, all design and set up is the sole responsibility of your Day Of Wedding Planner and Full Service Cater.  

Can we bring in our own alcohol?

Yes you may bring in your own alcohol. If your guest count exceeds 35 guests, all alcohol must be served by a licensed Cater, guests cannot “serve themselves”. Beer, wine and mixed drinks are allowed. 

What else makes The Market at Grelen properties special?

​Our homemade ice cream has been very popular and is becoming a staple at many Grelen weddings. Depending on the season, we have fresh berries and produce that can easily be incorporated into your specialty cocktail, dinner menu, or pie bar. Grelen honey from our own honey bees are a special one-of-a-kind favor for guests. Unique items from the Grelen Market Shop including live succulents, potted plants, decor items, etc are also available. Ask our Venue Manager for details on what will be in season for your wedding day.

Does The Market at Grelen offer onsite Catering?

​The Market at Grelen’s in-house catering team, headed up by our Executive Chef is able to manage all aspects of the catering portion of your event for you. Your guests will enjoy fresh, farm-to-table cuisine, grown at Grelen’s own 600 acre property and local farm partners. Catering is available for parties of 150 or less, served Buffet Style. Pricing ranges from $28-$100 per person. Inquire with Venue Manager Amanda Landon for more information. If you prefer, you may also bring in another cater from our preferred list.
